ASSALAAMU ALAYKUM !!!!!!

Dear Friend,

With due respect to your person and much sincerity of purpose, I make this contact with you as I believe that you can be of great assistance to me. My name is Mr Fadi Rashid, from Ouagadougou Republic of BURKINA FASO, West Africa . Presently i work in the African development Bank as telex manager. I have been searching for your contact since you left our country some years ago.

I do not know whether this is your correct email address or not because I only used your name initials to search for your contact .In case you are not the person I am supposed to contact, please see this as a confidential message and do not reveal it to another person but if you are not the intended receiver, do let me know whether you can be of assistance regarding my proposal below because it is top secret.

I am about to retire from active Bank service to start a new life but I am sceptical to reveal this particular secret to a stranger. You must assure me that everything will be handled confidentially because we are not going to suffer again in life.

It has been 10 years now that most of the greedy African Politicians used our bank to launder money overseas through the help of their Political advisers. Most of the funds which they transferred out of the shores of Africa were gold and oil money that was supposed to have been used to develop the continent. Their Political advisers always inflated the amounts before transfer to foreign accounts so I also used the opportunity to divert part of the funds hence I am aware that there is no official trace of how much was transferred as all the accounts used for such transfers were being closed after transfer.
I acted as the Bank Officer to most of the politicians and when I discovered that they were using me to succeed in their greedy act;

I also cleaned some of their banking records from the Bank files and no one cared to ask me because the money was too much for them to control. They laundered over $5b Dollars during the process .As I am sending this message to you, I was able to divert Ten million five hundred thousand united state dollars ($10.5m) to an escrow account belonging to no one in the bank. The bank is anxious now to know who the beneficiary to the funds is because they have made a lot of profits with the funds.

It is more than Eight years now and most of the politicians are no longer using our bank to transfer funds overseas. The ($10.5) Million Dollars has been laying waste but I don't want to retire from the bank without transferring the funds to a foreign account to enable me share the proceeds with the receiver. The money will be shared 60% for me and 40% for you.

There is no one coming to ask you about the funds because I secured everything. I only want you to assist me by providing a bank account where the funds can be transferred. You are not to face any difficulties or legal implications as I am going to handle the transfer personally. If you are capable of receiving the funds, do let me know immediately to enable me give you a detailed information on what to do.

For me, I have not stolen the money from anyone because the other people that took the whole money did not face any problems. This is my chance also to grab my own but you must keep the details of the funds secret to avoid any leakages as no one in the bank knows about the funds.

Please get back to me if you are interested and capable to handle this project
I shall intimate you on what to do when I hear your confirmation and acceptance. If you are capable of being my trusted associate, do declare your consent to me

Waiting for your urgent response
Yours Faithfully,
Mr Fadi Rashid

Dear friend.

Dear friend.

I assume you and your family are in good health.
I am the Foreign Operations Manager at one of the leading generation bank here in Burkina Faso West Africa.
This being a wide world in which it can be difficult to make new acquaintances and because it is virtually impossible to know who is trustworthy and who can be believed, i have decided to repose confidence in you after much fasting and prayer.   It is only because of this that I have decided to confide in you and to share with you this confidential business.

In my bank; there resides an overdue and unclaimed sum of nine million six hundred thousand United States dollars ($9,600,000.00).  When the account holder suddenly passed on, he left no beneficiary who would be entitled to the receipt of this fund.  For this reason, I have found it expedient to transfer this fund to a trustworthy individual with capacity to act as foreign business partner.  Thus i humbly request your assistance to claim this fund.

Upon the transfer of this fund in your account, you will take 45% as your share from the total fund, 10% will be shared to Charity Organizations in both country and 45% will be for me.
Please if you are really sure you can handle this project, contact me immediately
I am looking forward to read from you soon.
Thanks
Your Good friend,

Q1) Why is it relevant for every Victorian to be global-minded?

A1) As Victorians, one of our school values is global-mindedness and to be a good Victorian we must adhere as closely as possible to the school values. In fact, by being global-minded, Victorians are able to keep up-to-date on recent events that may soon affect life in Singapore. This characteristic is actually very valuable to have as Victorians participate very actively in different activities that require these general knowledge such as debates, essays, oral examinations as well as content for various narratives. Essentially, global-mindedness is something that is very relevant to each and every Victorian simply because it gives an enormous advantage over those who do not have this global-mindset.

Q2) How may global-mindedness in you be evident to your friends?

A2) As we climb up the education ladder, projects turn from a local context into a global sort of scene. As this projects appear throughout the year, I will be forced to form into a group with my classmates and friends and because of the global context in these projects, if I have global-mindedness, I will be able to throw out different ideas as well as know exactly what to look out for. This is gained by the wide variety of things going around the world which can be easily picked up by being global-minded. Simply put, it will be very obvious whether I am a global-minded person when a project based outside of Singapore is given out and I am able to relate well and help my group significantly to both understand and accomplish our goal.

Q3) What do you think best fosters global-mindedness in a person?

A3) In context with the technology of this era and how easy information can be accessed nearly anywhere around the globe, I believe the most significant factor in fostering the global-mindedness trait is simply curiosity. Everything is easy to access via television, newspapers and, of course, the internet and the simple feeling of wanting to know what is going on around you and what is happening in other parts of the world, is the one defining quality of most globally mindful people. Its that simple urge to find out more about what is going on in the world today that will foster a sort of global-mindedness in a person.

Q4)" A global mindset combines an openness to and awareness of diversity across cultures. It respects how different countries do things and has the imagination to appreciate why other cultures do them that way. But, a global mindset is also incisive  --- to push the limits of one's own way of doing things."

A4) The comment is very logical actually. By being global-mindedness, you will have access to different cultures from different places around the world. However, I will have to disagree slightly on the respect part of the comment. Fair enough, some people do admire and give respect to the different cultures however, in this age, racism very much exists. A person may have a global mindset and everything but he may also be sort of cynical and unfair to different cultures just because he feels that his way of life is much better than whatever cultures he has read up on. This is very much possible and it is not for certain that respect and appreciation always goes with a global mindset. Finally the last part of being incisive and challenge your own way of doing things, the first thing that comes into my mind is probably gaming. In a game such as League of Legends, you have different gameplay styles in different countries. The American & European teams I feel did not fully research on Russia's gameplay style which resulted in the Russian team completely dominating in the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge at Kiev since they caught everybody of guard with their extremely aggressive playstyle.

Global-mindedness assignment

1)  Why is it relevant for every Victorian to be Global minded?  Around the world, there are all sorts of different people.  All from different race, religion and nationality.  Victoria school is a school which is known by many as a good school and thus we do need to be global-minded so as to improve our social and interaction skills with all these people whom we may encounter in future.  These social skills are essential and could really help you out next time.

2)  Global-mindedness, of course, can be evident and seen by your peers in many ways.  But here's just one example, in the photo above, i am in a picture with an elderly woman in a peaceful village in Johor, Malaysia.  We can do a part being global-minded by respecting their culture.  For instance, we do not say that their village is,"boring" or "lame" all because they don't have shopping malls, cinemas and all sorts of modern technology that we have in our city.  In fact, the elderly woman is also doing her part being global-minded.  She too, is respecting our culture and who we are.  She does not call us all forms of rude words all because we are from a modern city and we do not know how to appreciate the simplicity of life at the village.  Hence, after interacting with this elderly woman, not only me, but my friends can see that we are all being global-minded.

3)  Well, i feel that in my opinion, the thing that fosters global-mindedness is character virtue.  Global-mindedness can only be encouraged and we simply cannot be forced someone to be a global-minded person.  It depends on a person's character mostly.  For example, we can have someone willing to be global-minded and encourage him even more to make him someone aware that he is a global-minded person and is also proud of it.  We can also have someone who doesn't care about global-mindedness and encourage him.  What we say will mostly go in through one ear and come out through the other. That sort of person will only act global-minded without meaning to be global-minded so he can get his job of being global-minded over and done with.  Thus, character virtue does foster global-minded the most.

4)  I totally agree with this comment.  We can see that global-minded people will respect people across the globe like in the photo you see above.  We can see that the people inside, including me, respect the culture of the elderly lady.  When he says that it pushes ones limits, i can completely agree with that too.  In order to be global-minded, we need to meet different people of all sorts to experience it first hand.  That is why you must travel a lot, push the limits of your comfort zone to make new friends.  In conclusion, i agree with this comment as everything about it is true, especially the part about pushing ones limits.

Q4) Briefly comment on the comment-

" A global mindset combines an openness to and awareness of diversity across cultures. It respects how different countries do things and has the imagination to appreciate why other cultures do them that way. But, a global mindset is also incisive- to push the limits of one's own way of doing things."

I strongly agree with this comment. The reason is that by having a global mindset, we will be able to engage with other people of different cultures and nationalities. Not only that, by doing this, I feel that we are able to appreciate and understand many other cultures, hence widening our scope of vision and understanding. Thirdly, I feel that having a global mindset is about respecting the different cultures and races, and how they do things. Besides that, by having a global mindset, we are able to challenge ourselves to perform better and better in order to keep up with what is happening around the world, as the globe is becoming more competitive. A global-minded society is one where all members of the society are made to feel welcome, regardless of race, language or religion. Indeed, it is a society where all differences are put aside and everyone and everything is equal. In conclusion, in order to live in peace and harmony, we must all learn to put aside all our differences and come together as one.

In this world filled with billions of people from all sorts of walks of life , it is so relevant for every victorian to be global-minded. we need to develop our interaction skills  especially with foreigners and be involved in opportunities that will enhance our global-awareness.

Global-mindedness in me may be evident to my friends as I travel to many countries for competitions, and thus I would be able to meet many friends of different cultures and religion. This develops my interaction skills as I am able to communicate and interact with  foreigners.

I feel that news, school or cca programmes  do play a part in developing global mindedness. However, it is the person's character that ultimately enhances learning.

I agree with the author's comment that a global mindset combines an openness to and awareness to diversity across cultures and the need to respect other cultures, but it takes an open mind and a submissive heart to do so.

1) It is important for Victorians to be global-minded as one must know what is happening around him or her. This will allow him or her to be able to keep up with society and push one's self to greater and higher goals. Keeping up will allow one to push one's own competitiveness and keep on fighting stronger and stronger so as to not lose out to peers and other students.

2)Global-mindedness can be evident to friends by discussing about the many events happening around the world, such as the world's economy, fights between people in the country going on now, or even smaller matters such as news on a particular country that is going through some sort of event even if it is good or bad. These can all bring up the topic on global-mindedness.

3)I feel that what fosters the development of global-mindedness is a person's curiosity and thirst for knowledge. With curiosity, people tend to look up on a certain topic or matter to find out more about it, leading to people being more aware of that topic. If one is curious about matters related to global-mindedness, he or she will be able to pick up more knowledge on global-mindedness and be more aware of the events happening around the world, in the country and around him or her.

4) I agree with the comment as I feel that in order for one to set a goal or target, he or she needs to know what is happening around him or her so as to find out what is the minimum that must be achieved and the maximum that can be achieved. So, if one is global-minded, he or she will be more aware of what is going on around the world and be able to set higher targets, pushing one's self more and more. Knowing other cultures and the way other countries do certain things is also important for one to learn and adapt accordingly.

CE assignment

1. I feel that global mindedness is important to every Victorian because if a person just hides in one's country
and not know anything about the world, he will not know that the world has moved forward into a new phase and
thus will lose to competitions around him since that person is not culturally aware. Moreover, without global
mindedness, Victorians will not understand and appreciate the other cultures, without understanding, there is
no acceptance so if Victorians are not global minded, Victorians will feel that the other culture are weird and
sometimes disgusting, therefore, global mindedness is important to Victorians.

2. Global mindedness is evident in my friends since we put aside our cultural differences to mingle with one
another and help each other out. Since we do not mind our different cultural practice, we are considered
global minded. We have friends that are from other countries and we respect them and their cultural practices.
This shows our global mindedness and our acceptance to other people's cultures

3.I feel that in order for someone to be global minded, that person must first understand and accept the diversity
across the cultures, In order to do that, one must first get close to those people and live with them, this will enable
the person to see the reason for certain cultural doings. Thus, to cultivate global mindedness in one person, I suggest
having a programme in which one is  exposed to different cultures and the meaning behind them, this will allow that
person to developed a sense of global mindedness

4. I agree with the author's comment, To get a global mindset, a person need to accept another person's culture, this cause
that person to do stuff differently after understanding another's culture. However, a person does not need to push the limits
of one's own way of doing things because once you accept another's culture, you will not have to force yourself to change
your way of doing things, instead it will come naturally and you will change. Understanding another's culture, how they work,
think and live would naturally change his way of doing things.

1)      In today's ever-evolving society, it is important for every Victorian to be global-minded to stay in touch with new trends. If one does not keep track of what is happening around the world, he will not lose his competitive edge. Secondly, if a Victorian is global-minded, he will be able to experience different cultures and ways of life and is able to broaden his perspectives.

2)      Global-mindedness can be evident to our friends if we discuss with them about the latest trends an events. Not only will this show our sense of global-mindedness, we would also be able to know other people's perspectives and how they view things.

3)      I feel that best fosters development of global-mindedness in a person is that he understands the need to be global- minded. If a person understands the importance of being global minded, he will work to develop that sense of global-mindedness. However, if he does not understand the importance, regardless of what is done to help him, global-mindedness cannot be developed. Schools should aim to develop a sense of global-mindedness in students to better prepare them for the future.

4)      I agree with the author of the comment. Global-mindedness is more than just knowing about different cultures from around the world, it is also about accepting them. A global-minded person would be able to understand and respect other people's way of life. Knowing how other people think, work and live would also allow a global-minded person to improve his method of thinking working and living.
